Hi, folks,

I have a trail friend, Rob — Mataguay Connector — who has been stuck at
ONLY 14 1/2 miles left to finish the PCT for at least 5 years. He’s older
than me, and I’m 74 (with only 360 miles left to go!)

Ten years ago, my spouse gave him a ride back to his vehicle when he was
day hiking the Seiad Valley climb DOWN hill and I — not wanting to miss out
on something that everyone talks about!!! — was, in my more youthful vigor,
day hiking it UP hill. Five years ago he got me a ride from SD to Campo,
and then picked me up at PVC 152 miles later.

Last Friday, he arranged to pick up my thru hiker daughter Annie/Gazelle at
PVC and get her back to SD after she hiked from KMS. She’s abandoning the
desert with the heat coming on and the rest of her permit is southbound
from Stevens Pass, so she won’t be starting far from our home in Spokane.

Long story short — when I found out that Rob had only 14 1/2 miles left,
but didn’t know anyone in the Walker Pass area, I said I’d introduce him to
a wonderful Trail Angel from Inyokern who could take him to the trail and
pick him up.

BUT — I can’t find any information on Far Out about the dirt road that goes
from some paved road or other up to Yellow Jacket springs near mile 639.
Rob needs to hike from there north to Walker Pass. Does anyone know
what road that is and how to get there? (My Trail Angel has a 4-wheel
drive truck and she knows how to use it!)

Thanks for continuing the circle of hikers helping hikers!
