[Gocamino] Crowds on the Camino

I am currently on the French trail , near Eauze, heading for Saint Jean Pied de Port .   I heard from various sources/ gites owners and hospitaliers that year-on-year numbers for this part of France are down in double digits.

Besides the terrible weather, I wonder whether the football world cup also has something to do with this ( temporary ? ) decline ?
