[Gocamino] [saintjames] Clarity on Credentials

Thanks to all of you for replying to my query regarding credentials. I did review the archive, and now I am thoroughly confused. I'd like to review my understanding of the credential situation. Please, would someone correct me if I have it wrong?

Beginning in 2009, everyone who (a) hopes to stay in a public refugio in Galicia, those owned by the Xunta, must have an "approved" credential from a Spanish church, monastery, etc.
  (2) Everyone who hopes to receive a compostela at the Pilgrim's Office must also possess an approved credential, with two sello per etapa for the last 100 k. of the Camino.
  (3) credentials issued by national pilgrim associations (Americans, British, French, etc.) will not be accepted for either (1) or (2) of the above.

  Is this correct?

I now understand about turegrinos. When I walked in Spain, I saw many turegrinos, but they were not staying at the pilgrim refugios, but in the small hotels along the way. In France, I saw many sports walkers on the GR65, but there (after Le Puy, which has a wonderful pilgrim auberge near the Cathedral) I felt lucky to have any bed at all at night, the crowding was so bad. I was never sure what was for pilgrims, and what wasn't.

Anyway, thanks to all for enlightening me. Have I got it right?

Hi Pat,

There are a whole lot of?postings that referred to this matter when the issue first arose months ago. Perhaps you can look for them in the GoCamino archives under "credentials"... or something. I don't know how to access old messages, but surely someone in the list-serv will disclose the means.
Regards,
Rosina

Rosina et al.? Would someone kindly explain to me the nature of the credencial problem?? In order to be given a bed at an albergue or refugio when I walked the Camino Frances in 2005, I had to present my credencial from American Pilgrims on the Camino to get it stamped.? What I don't understand is how the restrictions on the source of the credencials in 2009 will solve the problem of turigrinos?? Without credencials they could not and will not be able to use public albergues in Galicia, but couldn't use them in 2005 either.? Or am I missing something?? Please? enlighten me on this issue.

Hello you all,
>From 2009 on the only credentials that will be recognized for the purpose of staying in the Xacobeo-sponsored albergues will be the official accordion-like credential issued by the Archdiocese and affiliates. Those pilgrims that come from,? say, Vienna, will use the Jacobsweg credential for the public albergues outside of Spain, but once they reach Roncesvalles, or Somport, they will have to get the "official" one to gain access to the non-private albergues in Spain.
Of course, those pilgrims that will not be using the public albergues needn't worry about this or that credential.?
You will remember that the purpose of the requirement is to stem the flood of pseudo-pilgrims seeking to use the public albergues that has caused so many problems over the last few years and deprived so many bona fide pilgrims of albergue facilities.

Hugs!

As most of you know, there has been some confusion about whether or not
credentials issued by confraternities outside of Spain would be accpeted at
the Pilgrim's Office. The CSJ has released this news from Spain:

There is not any change for you or for any association outside Spain. The
decision not to accept at the Pilgrim's Office more than the credential of
the cathedral from 2009 refers only to Spain. And here we have written to
all the Associations of Friends of the Way and other institutions who have
edited their own badge.
The main reason is to ensure that adequate information is made of a sense of
pilgrimage of Christian pilgrimage to the Tomb of the Apostle and the
conditions for receiving the "Compostela". Therefore, as you continue the
process until now, trying, as far as possible that the pilgrims received the
blessing of the pilgrims at the start of his pilgrimage.
I hope this will clarify the issue definitively.
Sil
