Hello you all,
The Caixa Galicia choir, "Terra a Nossa" and the Capela Compostelana choir will present a concert "El Camino de Santiago" (The Road of Santiago) next? Tuesday, October 9th, commencing at 7:30 p.m., in the beautiful Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church located atr Park Avenue and 51st. street (close to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel).
The concert will be conducted by Miro Moreira who is the Chapel Master at the Santiago Cathedral.
The Episcopalian churches in New York City are uncommonly beautiful.... the most beautiful church in the City, in my view,? Saint Thomas Episcopal church which is located on Fifth Avenue (and 53rd. street, I think).?
Saint Bartholomew is particularly noteworthy because it has a sort of? elevated fair-sized open space next to it, right at the corner.? Because of its location on Park Avenue, that open space has been sought after by real estate developers from many countries, some offering up to a billion dollars for it.? When some years ago the church was in dire financial straits and considered selling it, the late Jacqueline Kennedy used all her influence, time, energy and money to raise the funds needed by the church and to create an endowment so that the space would remain as part the church.?
Today, that space is used as a garden cafe and resting oasis in the summertime;? fairs and craft markets and sundry church celebrations?are often held there and in December it becomes a Christmas market.
While Christmas markets are very popular in Europe, particularly in Germany and, even more so, in Vienna (and who can forget?the one in Piazza Navona in Rome?) they have only begun to appear in New York City in recent years.? Closer to my? neighborhood (Greenwich Village), there is now a very lovely one in Union Square.
Alas! in New York City it is illegal to sell or consume alcoholic beverages in open public places, so that our Christmas markets do not have such winter delights?as hot wine or that delicious Gluwein.... but they are quite nice and fun to visit anyway.
So, if you can at all manage it, do go to the Camino de Santiago Concert next Tuesday and listen to medieval Camino music sung by the Santiago Cathedral's wondrous and time-transcending choir.

Hugs!

Rosina
