Hello you all,
Yesterday the municipality of Sarria signed an agreement with the Xacobeo people through which the municipality will receive a subsidy to clean and make safe the portion of the Camino that traverses it (19 kms); the other municipalities had already signed and Sarria was the remaining hold out. The Xacobeo? people, together with same Xunta agencies are responding to the repeated complaints on the part of pilgrims about the sad state of the route in many places. In addition to paid workers, who are already on the job, the Office of volunteers of the USC (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela) will send volunteer students to help out. The students will be over 18 years old, will speak several languages and will have the capacity to relate to pilgrims, guide them and assist them.

By the way, the twenty red-shirt volunteers that ambulate throughout the Casco to help and orient pilgrims and other visitors as to how to get here or there, where to find food and lodgings, and what the cost thereof should be, are already on duty at the Casco.

Some pilgrims have taken umbrage at the result of the survey that rated albergues.? Many feel that the very best albergue is "O Cadavo" near Lugo. According to those who have stayed there, the albergue is "comfortable, spacious and with a kitchen". Some pilgrims stated that they were astonished at the comfort and space preferred at the albergue, adding that the place is a "tremendous luxury".? Other albergues in the area that received kudos are Villalba, Gondan, Mondonhedo and a fairly new one, Gontan.

Hugs!

Rosina?
