Dear Sir/Madam,
We would like to acknowledge the recent international release in DVD
of the documentary 'The Way to St James - no a path or roses -'.
The documentary was directed by Jose Alvarez –independent filmmaker
and graduate from the Royal College of Art, London– and filmed
during the pilgrimage along the 800Km from Roncesvalles to Santiago
de Compostela for 2 months in summer 2005.
The documentary portraits some of the thousands that every year
embark on this pilgrimage in Northern Spain. Most pilgrims are fully
informed about the route, hostels, walking techniques, timings,
stages and climates of the route, but all of them find a new
dimension in el Camino that no guide has ever explained.
'The Way to St James - no a path or roses -' leaves on the side
historic and artistic explanations of the route, neither provides
practical information for cheap tourism.
This documentary reaches the heart of el Camino, the feelings of the
international protagonists, the pilgrims and their devoted support:
the hospitaleros. The documentary travels through interviews reaching
the essence of this route, which received more than 180.000 people
only in 2004 (Holy Year).
Since its short independent release on DVD in Spain, the documentary
has been received enormously well, not only by the pilgrim community
around the globe but also has raised interest in several departments
in universities. To mention some: Universidad de Navarra (Spain),
Durban University of Technology (South Africa), Cégep du Vieux-
Montréal (Canadá), Carleton College (US) and Trinity College (Ireland).
The documentary was recently official selection at the European Film
Festival in Castilla La Mancha organised by the Lumiere Foundation.
Due to the acclaimed response from hundreds of people, libraries and
academics, we have decided to launch the DVD internationally.
The DVD is PAL format and 120 mins long, in Spanish with English
subtitles option, 2.0 Dolby, Widescreen and filmed in HD. Extras
include a photography gallery, unedited interviews selection,
director's biography and scene selection. It's already for sale
