[Gocamino] Options to the Camino Frances?

Brandon,
I can't speak of a different route, but of the two different beginnings
of the Camino Frances. I've walked from St. Jean Pied de Port across
the Pyrenees and also crossed Somport Pass and taken the route through
Jaca. If you haven't done the Somport beginning, I recommend it. The
mountains are really beautiful, the camino is still somewhat less
populated (until this old route joins the other line of the Camino
Frances in Puenta Le Reyna) and it's got very pleasant newer refugios
of larger and smaller scale. One treat is to see the Cathedral's
museum in Jaca where the frescoes from several medieval ermitas
(country chapels) are now displayed. As you go beyond Jaca, you pass
the ermitas where the frescoes were painted - some in ruins, some
whole, but stripped bare. It seemed to me that there were more of them
in this section of the Camino than I recall from later on, and the only
larger museum of this kind of Spanish frescoe art is in Barcelona, so a
long ways from the Camino.
love,
donald
