The full name of the Via de la Plata Sevillian guide is
              "Guia del Camino Mozarabe de Santiago; VIA DE LA PLATA".
Published by the Diputacion de Sevilla; ISBN 84-931176-1-7.
The word "mozarabe" applies to Spanish people and culture that remained
Christian during the nearly 700 years Muslim occupation of most of Spain. While
many Spaniards fled their native lands as they became occupied by the Moors many
more remained and maintained, covertly, their culture and religion; since the
Romans had built a magnificent system of roads around what today is, roughly,
the Via de la Plata, such roads were used by the moors for commercial and
expansion purposes and by the Christians, surreptitiously, to make pilgrimages to
religious Christian sites including Santiago. The pilgrimages to the North
formed a web of Christian inter-communication that fostered,  nurtured and
fomented the eventual reconquest of the Iberian peninsula by the Catholic kings
Isabel and Fernando.
In  that  sense the Via de la Plata has an unequaled historical significance
and a wealth of reliquary treasures both European and Arab.
