In 1992, Nicholas Crane followed the continuous line of mountains running from the Atlantic to the Black Sea. (and then wrote a book - Walking across Europe ). His first chapter is The Perverse Pilgrim, and recounts the strange experience of walking in the opposite direction to the pilgrims.
