I wore mine hanging from my left (south) shoulder. That worked fine. I had drilled
holes in the plastic case and put a nylon cord through the holes so that I could
easily hang it from a pack strap. I didn't have a cell phone, but used NiMH AAs in
a number of toys - shaver, camera, pearlcorder, electric torch (flashlight to
us),  and gps.
