Traveling in silence

I, too, prefer silence, solitude, on the Camino. I do sing, however.
As for communicating due to necessities: it's easiest to go ahead and speak, use words. After all, silence is also a matter of the heart, not necessarily broken by words unless they are disruptive words. Asking for toothpaste, or where the Camino is if you are lost, is not disruptive to me.
