CD ROM

I would also like to get this "virtual visit".

I guess my computer illiteracy will become evident now...what is the difference between getting the CD ROM version and the DVD version?  Also, I know that the television systems are different (video tapes cannot be exchanged, but must be converted), but I always assumed computer systems would be universally compatible, and that you would be able to view a European DVD on a North American computer with DVD reader.
