My forthcoming book is called "The Blood of Martyrs: Unintended Consequences of Ancient Violence." One of the chapters, called "Magic and the Warrior Martyr" looks at how a martyr -- who experienced violence and died as witness to faith turned into a warrior. The image of Santiago Matamoros will open this chapter, as St. James is the best-known example of this shift.

	I would be curious to learn the correlation between the Santiago Matamoros image and martyrs. There are several and diverse versions of the image.  Which particular one do you have in mind?
