Reasonable Accommodations

Concerning reasonable places to stay. All prices are in Euros.

Look for a one foot square, light blue background, sign near a door.
Usually there are stars as well. H = Hotel, the most expensive. Hs =
Hostal (hotel without a restaurant), Hr or Hsr - Hostal/Residencia, the
cheapest are Hospedaje or Fonda. We found many in the 40 range for two
people with private bath, some charged 15 or 20 per person in the room.
Also look for signs which say "camas or habitaciones." some on the window's
of bars.

In Logrono, Burgos, Leon and Astorga the prices are higher. In Santiago,
if you don't want to stay our at Monte Gozo, look down the narrow side lanes
behind the Cathedral. Anything on a main street probably is more expensive.
We were in a Hospedaje at 30, bath and toilet down the hall, and only 100
meters from the Cathedral.

We found that the albergues in Mansilla de las Mulas, Palas de Rei and Arzua
were filled by 4:30 in the afternoon, but there were plenty of alternate,
and more expensive accommodations available. We also met some singles who
had found someone to walk with and share/split a room when the albergue was
filled.

While people on bikes were accepted in some albergues, it was not until 5:30
PM in one place, 7:30 PM in another. The closer we got to Santiago the less
possibility for people on bikes to stay in an albergue.
