Biking the Camino in May 2003

We biked from Pamplona to Santiago in May 2001 and plan to retrace the Camino in May 2003, taking around 20 days to cover the route. We stayed mostly in small hotels, called hostals. I am what the French call "a woman of a certain age" (64) and a very light sleeper. We did stay in a refugio in Puenta la Reina, a convent in Santio Domingo de la Calzadas and the alberue on top of O Cebriero. We brought old bikes with us, the airline took them as excess baggage, in boxes. When we got to Santiago we gave them away to two children. No hassle to get them back home. When carrying stuff in panniers, visiting churches and other interesting places, and stopping for multitudinous photo-ops, you cannot go fast. If all you want to do is get there, race thru the country, and not experience it. Don't go. I have put many posts on this list and some people may be tired of reading about our trip. Any people interesting in our biking, past or future, can contact us (me) directly at jeandaveamindspring.com.

  Hello, everyone!

I plan to ride my bike on the road to Santiago Pilgrimage next year. The purpose of the trip is semi-religious nature and semi-sight seeing. That is because I am a Catholic in Japan but I have lost my faith for Jesus Christ in the past 20 years. Now I sometimes attends mass at a church after I got an accident two year ago. I hope that I can experience a miracle during a trip and really believe in the omnipotence and omniscience of Jesus Christ.

During my trip, I will be stopping by at the castle of Xavier. As you might know, St. Xavier came to Japan to preach the gospel to the Japanese. When I visited Vatican three years, I saw the bone of his hand enshrined inside the Cathedral. It was impressive, indeed.

If anyone had a bike trip in Spain, kindly let me know your story.

  Cheers

  Yoong Lee
