Paris start location, also Vezelay

I don't know if it is an "official" starting place anymore, but a nice symbolic starting point is the Tour St.-Jacques, Saint James' Tower, which is all that remains of the old Church of Saint James that was demolished during the Revolution. The tower is an imposing landmark on the right bank, five minutes from Notre-Dame. Saint Jacques / Saint James / Santiago is still up standing up there at the top in his broad hat, welcoming pilgrims.
