When I took the Route Napoleon (1999) from SJPP to Roncesvalles, I managed
to get lost three times. At that time, I apparently failed to recognize any
path indicators (yellow markers, etc), because the French side was not well
marked. I did have my Lozano Guia Practica, but the maps (not really maps!)
were difficuly to follow. Altho it is a niced book to have, it was heavy
and not readily accessible to me, being buried deep inside of my back-pack
as it was.
One useful map that I later found was from a French CD, called "Carte de
Cassini", a digitized version of a historic map dating from the late 1700s.
Detail is excellent, and it was probably the map that Napoleon's troops used
to go across the mountains.
