My story has to do with being freed from dependence on my stick and
anything else that bound me to other than the Camino.
I have a black thorn walking stick that I purchased in London several
years ago. It has supported me over the White Mountains in New
Hampshire, the Catskills and Adirondacks in New York and a few mountains
in Turkey. It support my wife for three miles on a broken leg. I had
planed to use it when I walked the Camino the year before last, but
Delta airlines had other ideas. My pack and I arrived in Madrid but the
stick did not show up.
I left it behind and collected when we returned to Madrid airport a
month later. The missing stick helped to teach me to let go of plans and
trust God to take care of us as we walked.
P. S. I plan to take it this year when we go back. It is an old friend
and I hope God lets it travel with me.
