lf you have a computer, I suggest you try:

http://www.learnspanish.com

However, if you really want to get serious go to the above site and order their online course: 15 CD's. I believe this costs about $165 dollars but in my opinion it is well worth it. This will also buy you online access to 12 months of scripts (correlated with the CD's), vocabulary, computer word games, grammar exercises, etc. etc. This course is different than most others, because it emphasizes saying dialogs over and over as a way to learn and get a genuine 'feel' for the language.

If, however, you just want to wing it, there is, of course, the handy pocket-sized Berlitz "Say it in Spanish" with tapes.

  Hello everyone,

I'm new, but I've been lurking here for a while. I've learnt a great deal from this list and I'd like to thank you all. That recent thread about addiction really resonated with me. I hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1999 and far from "getting it out of my system", it made me crave that kind of experience all the more. This year I'm planning to hike the Long Trail in Vermont, and then the Camino from Le Puy to Compostella in 2003.

At the moment I'm just trying to get the "feel" of the Camino, but I'm sure I'll have many questions later on. One thing I have to start right away is trying to learn some Spanish - I don't speak a word at the moment. I speak pretty good French and that is one of reasons for wanting to start in Le Puy.

Has anyone any advice about a good crash course in Spanish - there aren't many Spanish speakers around here.

  Chris
