Goose "companions"

hmmmm...I wonder if they are mentioned in the Ken Follett book (fiction) on
the Cathedral Builders, The Pilars of the Earth.  It mentions the Camino and
interesting things happen...I'l have to check just for fun.  It's a quick
and interesting winter read in any case.
