[Cfp-interest 2942] Designing+Impementing Floating Point Dominated/centric Tasks

Hi,

In which forum should one discuss such things? These tasks are a mix of
numerical-analysis and mathematics and programming skills.

Is
 	CFP-interest
or
 	STDS-754

optimal. I must admit that I find some discussion in

 	stackoverflow

is also (sometimes) highly relevant, especially on the implementation
(programming) details. That said, some discussions in that forum about a
well programmed implementations are occassionaly wanting on the design
(numerical analysis) aspects, making them less than useful. And with
stackoverflow's large remit (scope of discussion), it is sometimes a
'needle-in-a-haystack' exercise looking in there.

I noticed that someone was scolded in another mailing list a while back
for wanting to discuss a problem that had a programming component (which
seemed overly picky to me).

Some issues that get triggered by some programming detail (implementing
some concept) of one of the libraries such as

 	MUSL
or
 	OpenLIBM
or
 	(whatever)

are often discussed only there, depriving the discussion of the insight of
other highly gifted numerical analysts or mathematicians. And vica versa
in other less programming focused forums).

Then again, sometimes, it becomes something to discuss with the author of
some related chunk of code if one is lucky enough to know who that person
is and have their current email address and be blessed with that person
still having an interest in the field or even the ability to give you
their time. And we are starting to lose many of the luminaries in the
field as they move onto other roles, they enjoy a well earned retirement
or they sadly (sometimes prematurely) pass on (for which the world is so
much poorer).

Thanks - Damian
