I never thought of walking a continuous path of section hikes - that makes
things quite a bit more complicated. My thought in 2001 was to start at
the ends and work toward the middle, so I wouldn't have to drive as far
as I got older. Southern California desert in the spring, Washington state
in the fall, short trips in the northern Sierra in the summer.
It sort of roughly worked.
By chance I had a pretty easy time on section Q. I was able to set up
a car shuttle so I could hike south from Grider Creek to Etna. The blowdown
climbing out of Grider Creek wasn't as bad then as it has been more recently.
Then a few years later I was able to arrange a one-way road walk from
Seiad Valley to Grider.
Good luck on the timing - hopefully after whatever
trail work is going to be done is done, and before whatever fires are going
to start are started.
