E-mail has been flowing at the WG/OMC/X3 level regarding the US position
on the work being done by X3T2 and it's ISO counterpart. One of their
efforts is Language Independent Arithmetic. J11.1 has been monitoring this
for some time and is making comments. However, there was concern that our
current FP draft document authored by Jim Thomas makes no mention of LIA
and there is suggestions we are ingnoring them and that we are publishing
an IEEE binding. I thought we were giving them input as we agreed to do
and am not sure how their work can or should affect us. That is, why
should we reference their docs in ours? This will be discussed in Hawaii
so if you have any knowledge of LIA and relates stuff, come prepared.

This is one of many cross-language standards evolving that, eventually,
the X3J/WG (language groups) will have to deal with.
