1) What are the bits of LIA status? CD, pre-CD, DIS?
I assume that CD means Committee Draft and DIS means Draft International
Standard. The answer is ...
The LIA-part 1 (dated 03/91) is the first CD of the document. This
version was balloted within SC22 to progress it to Draft International
Standard. This ballot actually passed, but 2 negative votes from the US
and France prompted SC22/WG11 to decide to not progress the document.
The editor of the LIA-part 1 was instructed to produce a second CD of
the document with changes aimed at satisfying these negative comments.
The second CD is the version of the LIA-part 1 that is expected to be
distributed within the next couple of weeks. As soon as this is
available, another ballot will be started within SC22 to progress the
LIA-part 1 to Draft International Standard. At the same time, there
will be a public comment initated within the US.
The status of parts 2 and 3 is that no working drafts have been produced
for either of these projects. Working drafts for parts 2 and 3 are not
expected until April 1993.
2) Are the X3T2 or SC22/WG11 committee meetings are open to the public?
How can I find out when and where the next meeting will take place?
The next two X3T2 meetings are:
September 28 - October 2, 1992 in Kansas City
January 4 - January 8, 1993 in Albuquerque
The next two SC22/WG11 meetings are:
August 21 - August 24, 1992 in Tampere, Finland
October 12 - October 16, 1992 in Paris, France
The X3T2 meetings are open to anyone, although only members can vote.
The SC22/WG11 meetings are NOT open to anyone. You must be a nominated
delegate from a SC22 member body nation or a nominated liaison in order
to attend. The US delegation to SC22/WG11 is nominated by X3T2 and this
delegation must support the US positions even though they may conflict
with their own or their company's position.
3) Can you tell me if the proposed standards are ftp-able from some
site?
A postscript copy of the Language Compatible Arithmetic Standard
(version 3.1, first committee draft, dated 1 March 1991) is available
for anonymous FTP from
node: crl.dec.com
file: pub/misc/lcas.ps
user: anonymous
4) I would be interested in seeing the FPA and Complex Arithmetic
portions of the proposed standards.

A version (2.2?) of the LCAS was published in ACM SIGPLAN Notices,
Vol. 25, No. 1, January 1990, pp. 59-86.
Version 3.0 (dated December 26, 1990) of the LCAS was presented to the
NCEG (Numerical C Extensions Group) at the March 4-5, 1991 meeting.
