My father didn't send a message on 24 Feb 2010, but I found this one
interesting that he'd sent earlier to my cousin Jack.

    I wanted to thank you for the Jimmie Rodgers record.  We plan to 
listen to it tonight.  Jerry is too young to have heard him, so it will 
be an introduction to a lost world for him.  I never heard him on radio 
as it was before we had electricity or a battery-powered radio.  I only 
heard him on the old wind-up Victrolas.  He defined country music, and 
the nasal sounds associated with it I always thought came from the 
inability of the Victrola recorders (or players) to accurately depict 
the human voice.  Imitators felt that they had to make their voices 
sound like Jimmie Rodgers on the old Vics.  I also remember how the  
Victrola sounded as it wound down.
