My Miam Miam Dodo guide arrived, I'm off then. ;-) Kind of makes it more real to have the book in hand. Amazon.fr had the book, took about two weeks to arrive. The GR65 map was not available, but I think that I will not worry about that, I can always buy one there, and the MMD has some maps in it. Unlike the Confraternity books, I did not see a running total of the distance, so I will have to look that up somewhere and take that with me in paper or electronic form.

My plan is basically unchanged, fly to Paris mid-September, take a train and bus to Condom, and walk from there to Pamplona. Around 270 km, a little less than I walked in 2002, but I am older now.

For those interested in technology, I bought a used 3GS iPhone, a couple of models back, for $150, activated it on AT&T, and they unlocked it, so I will be good to go when I get to France. I will buy a SIM for the phone in France, probably buy voice only service, and use WIFI when available to upload Blogs, photos, etc. I mulled over this and sweated it twenty ways to Sunday, and finally decided that the iPhone performed every electronic function that I could need, and that I had to have some kind of phone anyway to make reservations, so the iPhone was the way to go. Now I have my iPhone, which I am enjoying here, of course still learning how to use it.

Thanks for all the tips, I am likely to have more questions as I get closer. I am going to go for light boots this trip (I ended up with ridiculously heavy boots last time), and bring a light sleeping bag. I walked Leon to Santiago in the spring of 2002. Other than needing to make reservations, and France being more expensive than Spain, what other differences between France and Spain am I likely to note? My French is functional, and will be better by the time I leave. My Spanish is good, so that will make the trip a little different, it won't be as easy to communicate in France as it was in Spain.
