[Gocamino] Baggage question

Hospitaleros can help a great deal about policies of places directly up the road from them. Do not hesitate to ask them for advise!

This should not be a major problem either. One could have the baggage sent to

a nearby facility-- I had to do that twice (for other reasons-- it wasn't that

the albergues refused transported luggage), no problems!

Carrying it only 2 to 4 km is better than carrying it 20 to 30 km.

Another thing is that on the transport "ticket," there is a list of several

facilities and all one has to do is to check off one of them. All of them would

be accepting baggage. No real need to use an albergue that isn't listed, but if

it's a preference, see first paragraph. The hospitaleros can help with giving

advice on distances to the various albergues further up the line if you don't

have that information and need it to make a decision.

The only thing I would add is that many non-private albergues require that you

carry your pack from the prior albergue. This is not usually a problem with

private albergues.

check transbagages.com for baggage service on the Camino. I used them in

France, and found them completely reliable. They now provide this service in

Spain as well. Patricia Rush, upstate NY

I had heard of the service before, but hesitated thinking they'd lose my stuff,

lots of problems, etc.

While working as a hospitalera in Sep 2010, I found that other pilgrims had few

complaints and even those few problems had been rectified in a few hours with a

simple phone call. After my duty was over, I used the service myself, as I was

getting over a case of bronchitis and thought I'd not tire myself out with my

pack. It all worked like clockwork. In one case, the boarding house where I

was placed by the TI was not served by Jacotrans (Holy Year and some difficulty

finding room anywhere and did not wish to walk further)-- they were using

another smaller taxi company-- it all worked fine!

About two minutes after sending the first email I found the correct name

Jacotrans and the web address:

http://www.jacotrans.es/ The site is in Castellano, but it is easy to follow if

you have basic knowledge of the language, and Google offers to translation if

you need it.

Once again, my experience with them was positive. Many pilgrims opt to carry

bags some days and use the service on others.
