Hi,
The new albergues are (one each) in A Corunha, Dumbria, Samos, Valga, Palais de rei, Casa Forte de Lusio, Fisterra, Lugo, and 2 in Sarria. Reportedly the Xunta spent 1.5 Million Euros and matching funds were provided by the specific municipalities.
In addition, new albergues have begun to be built in Batanzos, Carral, Boimorto, Castroverde, Villa de Rei and Pontecesures. Some of these six albergues already in construction, and four more at the planning stage, are expected to be completed before Easter, and all of them before the Summer.
During 2010 extensive renovations and enlargements were made to the Melide albergue and the Condesa de Pedrafita do Cebreiro albergue in Lugo, as well to the albergues in Santiago. These renovations, and the new albergues, added about 4,000 beds for pilgrims in the Xacobean-sponsored albergues.
Furthermore, the Santiago Archdiocese directly made possible significant enlargements and renovations to several albergues maintained by religious orders in Samos, Sobrado and throughout the Camino.
While the need for the extra facilities during 2010 is easily comprehensible, I do not really understand why in addition to all the albergues that were added in 2010 so many new ones are being built.
Hugs,
Rosina

Subject: Temporary Albergues

"The Xacobean people have announced that the five temporary albergues opened during 2010 will become permanent.
This increases the number of new Xacobean-sponsored albergues to ten."

Where are the new albergues?

Glenn

PS...I have my plane tickets and will be starting once again in St Jean April 28th. Hopefully the Route de Napoleon will be free from snow.
I would love to see the Pyrenees in all their glory one more time.
