[Gocamino] trip cancellation

This is the hardest report to write and I have already stalled off doing it for a week and a half. I had to cancel my flight because I developed a bad bacterial infection, possibly from methicillin-resistant Staphyococcus aureus (MRSA). It showed up just a few days before my scheduled flight, and in a couple more days my face was swollen up to half again its normal size.

After all the planning and preparation, I was reluctant to give it up, but given all the other uncertainties of this kind of trip, I didn’t have the nerve to make a try at it. One of the problems is that two different antibiotics, with very different protocols, were prescribed and it is difficult to time these things properly when you are flying over several time zones and your eating schedules are all out of whack. I have enough trouble just keeping track of the prescriptions (and supplements) that I ordinarily take – some with meals, one at least one half hour after eating, and so on.

I didn’t consider postponing it to be an option. To start later this year, would get me into shorter days and colder weather than I want to deal with. I may still feel up to it in the spring, but I don’t want to commit to a specific departure date at this time.
