Greetings again from Santiago.
Thanks to all those who came back to me on the stats for the year so far. There was a slight glitch in one of the comparative figures for the total number of pilgrims leaving from Cebreiro. Thanks to those who spotted it. I have now fixed it in the report.
Thanks also for the interesting question on how the countries compare over a number of years. I´ve run a report based on the first 8 months of 2008, 2009 and 2010. This showed that whilst information is in the data base extracting it is a different matter and much cutting and pasting had to be done! Anyway here it is:
Numbers of pilgrims from the ¨Top¨ 20 countries in the years 2008, 2009, 2010

Hi everyone - just curious about how much the numbers have changed since July 25 and as we move into "off season". would be interested to hear from anyone travelling in August or later this year. How busy is it on the route and in the refugios?
thanks, Mary

Greetings from Santiago
I was very interested in Tim´s point (see below) about whether or not numbers were up or down accross the routes so I spent some time today delving into the data base. I´ve done a total for the year so far with an analysis. I´ve also compared various starting points for the last three years for the period 1st January to 31 August. The results are fascinating. Starting in St Jean de Pied Port for example numbers are way below what was expected, indeed from Pamplona numbers are marginally down. The surge comes much closer to Santiago as you wll see.

I am here fore a few days more and return mid-end September. If any of the numbers aficionados have particular lines of enquiry send them to me and I´ll find out what I can.
Best wishes
John
