Welcome to the new Inspirational Moments newsletter.This is the 6th year of publication
and interest in the Camino continues to grow so I've secured a service that will
 help me to create and manage it. Let me know what you think. It is my honour to
 share the insights and lessons of my life journey with you and it's my hope that
you will be inspired in some way. This month I have a story to share from my pilgrimage
to India, where I spent 30 days in silent meditation and 30 days traveling.

March 8th is International Women's Day. I encourage you to celebrate the women in
your life in some way. There will be a screening of the Camino documentary film 
Las Peregrinas...the women who walk, at Verity Club at 111D Queen St E in Toronto
on Friday March 6th at 7pm with a reception at 6pm. It's a fundraiser for the Canadian
Women's Foundation . $25.00. Tickets available at the door. Everyone is welcome.

My India Journey
Children begging in the streets of Jaipur learn to blow kisses...
During my two month journey to India I learned, like in the film Slumdog Millionaire,
that children beg in the streets with blood stained bandages on their hands, open
wounds on their head and body, using crutches and carrying babies. While driving
 through traffic in a rickshaw, I was constantly approached by them whenever we 
stopped. I'd heard stories about these kids being "managed" by entrepreneurial slum
lords looking to make money from them. At first I would give them rupees or whatever
food I had on me. If I was on the street, I bought them food and chai. Local Indians
who saw me getting money out would shake their head no.  Even my rickshaw driver
 warned me not to give to them. My heart ached. I couldn't turn a blind eye to this
level of poverty? What could I possibly do to have an impact on millions of beggars?
One day I was in a rickshaw stopped at a light when a little girl, maybe 9 years
 old and not wearing any shoes, approached me with a 10 month old baby girl slung
around her hip. The baby didn't have a diaper, pants or shoes on. It's said that
 children are sent out to beg with baby because people will pity them and that brings
in more money. It was working.

The girl held her thumb and two fingers to her mouth, indicating they were hungry.
It was obvious they hadn't bathed in a long time by the dirt ingrained into their
skin. The baby had a blank stare on her face. I smiled but neither of them responded.
I began to wonder how many times a day they were rejected by people...sent away.
 ..cursed at...even yelled at. I wanted them to know I wasn't rejecting them. So,
I tickled the little baby on the cheek to make her laugh. There was no response.
 I tickled her under her arm, then on her knee and finally, the bottom of her feet.
There was no reaction at all. All the time, the girl continued to motion she was
 hungry. I put my hands over the baby's head and said the words, "I give you my 
love." The baby looked at me. Then the little girl took her hand away from her mouth
and I gave her my love too. They both paused staring at me. It was clear they were
responding to my love. I blew a kiss to the baby and she reacted with a big smile.
Then the girl started laughing and having fun blowing kisses to me. A woman sitting
on the median about 20 meters away with a group of child beggars, watched so I blew
her a kiss. She immediately blew one back to me and before I knew it, there were
 20 other children beggars  who were blowing kisses to me and laughing in delight.
 The traffic light changed and we had to leave. I kissed them goodbye.

That day I didn't give money, instead I gave my love and it felt good. I decided
 that I'm going to do my bit to make this a better world, one kiss at a time.

Camino Events
The Canadian Company of Pilrims is holding their semi-annual meeting at St. James
Cathedral at 65 Church St. in Toronto from 1:30 to 4pm on Saturday March 7, 2009.
Everyone is welcome. The exhibit Sacred Steps - The art of the Camino is being show
from 12:30pm to 1:30pm in the cathedral museum.

There is a small group of women walking the Camino from May 22-June 2, 2009 and 
I will be going as their guide. If you are interested in finding out more about
