I got a post card in this morning’s mail that has the following
announcement:

Sacred Steps:

Pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago

A celebration of the experience of modern pilgrims on the path to
Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain through photographs and works
of art. Sponsored by the Xunta de Galicia, Spain and its Office of
Tourism. Hosted by the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preversation.

Opening Reception
Friday, March7 | 4:30 — 6:30 pm

Some time ago, I sent in my reservation to attend the American
Pilgrims’ Gathering in Santa Barbara, which just happens to start on
the very same day as that reception. Today’s post card was the first
that I had ever heard of it. At least I certainly don’t remember
hearing about it. I have to admit that I don’t really trust my memory
very much anymore. Later today, I received a message from the American
Friends group giving details about the gathering and casually
mentioning that Friday’s program would include a walk over to the
Museum for the reception.

Did I miss something along the way? Was this a scheduled event of the
gathering all along or is it pure serendipity? If it had been part of
the plan all along, how did it escape my notice? Somehow I would have
thought that a big issue would have been made about this concurrence
of events of interest to the camino community. This year’s list of
attendees for the gathering looks a little skimpy at this point. It is
just a guess on my part, but I think that a stronger attempt to
publicize it on these forums would have substantially increased this
year’s attendence.
