Audio interview with the author of 'The Way is Made by Walking'

One step at a time: a Mennonite minister walks the Camino de Santiago

Pilgrimage is a key spiritual practice in many faiths, but some journeys take longer than others. Over time, Mennonite minister Arthur Paul Boers began to sense a divine calling to walk the 500-mile pilgrimage route known as Camino de Santiago. Like millions before him, Boers made the 31-day trek, ending in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, at a cathedral that is said to hold the relics of the apostle James.

Boers likes to say of his journey: "I once walked 500 miles to go to church!" In his book, The Way is Made by Walking: A Pilgrimage Along the Camino de Santiago (Intervarsity Press), Boers tells his story of renewed spirituality springing from walking this ancient route.

Boers grew up in Ontario and is now an associate professor of pastoral theology at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana.

Listen to his conversation with Tapestry host Mary Hynes here.
