The ages of the 2006 Compostela-granted Santiago pilgrims were:

 

Under 12 years of age, 930

13 to 18 years, 9,780

19 to 35 years, 35,266

36 to 60 years, 49.558

66 to 75 years, 4. 606

75 to 94 years, 237

 

40,961 of the pilgrims were women and 59,416 were men.

 

1l pilgrims went by wheelchair, 294 rode horses, 18,289 went by bicycle and 81,738 walked.

-But some of the pilgrims who started the pilgrimage in their own country skied part of the way:

628 from Germany,

232 from Switzerland, 

78 from Austria, 

46 from Italy.  

-Other pilgrims walking or bicycling all the way from their own hometowns or countries were:  

726 from Holland, 

315 from Belgium, 

212 from Lourdes, France,

72 from Lisbon, 

49 from Paris, 

5 from Luxemburg, 

5 from Poland,

4 from the Czech Republic, 

3 from Finland, 

1 from Hungary

 

Pilgrims declaring a purely religious motive for making the pilgrimage were 41,793;

a religious cultural motive: 49,726;

a cultural reason: 8,858.
