The whole video is, for me, beyond superlatives, in every way.

I would just love for the people at the Pilgrims' Office and the Confraternity to see it and, in that way, be somehow rewarded for their long, arduous, and largely unrecognized efforts...... but except for one or two volunteers, those who toil there don't speak English. They speak French, Italian and Portuguese (which is very much like Galician) fluently, and two of the workers there have now learned German... but no English other than five or six very common phrases.

The video is 150 delicious minutes long... so that translating it for someone as it is shown is out of the question.... at least for me.

When on the Camino I spend a horrendous amount?of time, daily, translating and translating..... at albergues, at stores, at churches and, almost always, at the post office. Those needing translations are, mostly, German speaking pilgrims who speak to me in English so that I can translate into, mostly, Spanish.
French, Italian and Portuguese-speaking pilgrims need much less help, except for many Brasilians, perhaps, who believe they speak/understand Spanish well and needlessly complicate things a lot.

While translating may come easily to some people it?is quite difficult for me. I think in one language or another, and have to rethink the whole?thing in the other language to translate it.? It is very, very tiresome.? Some multi-lingual friends of mine avoid travelling with their mono-lingual spouses to a country where the spouse does not speak the language because they absolutely hate to have to translate and translate. Also, the monolingual one feels left out,?wants to know every little thing that is being said, interrupts and interrupts, situations arise, and the trip?becomes unpleasant.? It is far, far better to travel alone, particularly on the Camino where one may be lost in thought or conversing with oneself.

Oh well!

There are two things, though, that beg translation into Spanish at least:? Linda Davidson's book on the Camino "The Pilgrims' Road to Santiago" (still the best, in my view, for pilgrims) and the Way Within/Without video.

By the way, could anyone explain?what the title "Within the Way Without" means?? Its connotation?totally escapes me.?

Hugs!

Rosina
