Hello you all,

The Xunta allocated, and spent, about 400,000 Euros to redo the albergue in O Cebreiro; the doors have been installed and it is expected to reopen before July 24th with a 40 to 50 berths capacity.

The albergue, originally built in 1993, had been leaky and very humid and it cried out for renovations, more so since O Cebreiro, a pre-Roman village is a popular tourism and pilgrimage stop.

During the recent hospitaleros’ seminary many concerns were voiced about “turigrinos”, those July and August groups that are on vacation and, seeking not to spend money, pretend to be pilgrims in order to stray on the albergues free of charge. The O Cebreiro albergue, like the rest of the albergues sponsored by the Xacobeo and Xunta people, is free and will remain so until next January 2nd. when the charge of 3 Euros will be imposed.

According to the hospitaleros the “turigrinos” tend to be rudely demanding and to feel far more entitled to services without reciprocal obligations than bona fide pilgrims.  Further, their numbers keep increasing.  This is one of the reasons why the granting of credentials will be better regulated and those seeking entry to an albergue will be more closely scrutinized.

Also,

The Archdiocese has announced that it seems certain that the Botafumeiro will reappear on next Sunday’s pilgrim Mass. The mechanism damaged pieces have been replaced and those working on it have testing the procedure using a piece of concrete slightly heavier than the Botafumeiro’s 176 pounds.  So far, so good.  Let’s hope.

Hugs!
