In 1987, the Route of Santiago de Compostela was first launched by the
Council of Europe. The aims were to gather different organizations, public
or private, religious or profane, in order to join efforts and activities to
defend and promote the Route. Through this event, an intercultural dialog
was to be established, since many routes cross different countries of
Europe, such as France, Spain, Portugal,… Twenty years later, the situation
has to be evaluated.

Seven International Congresses already took place. The last one was
organized in Ponferrada (León, Spain).

This time, the European Jacobean Forum is definitely international: it
gathers Spanish organizations and international, public or religious
administrations, associations and pilgrims engaged in the development of
pilgrimage routes. The goal is to see which reforms have been made and in
what they resulted.

More than 300 specialists will be present in order to animate the Forum.
