Hello you all,

With the consent of its writer I am posting an e-mail which is of interest of us all and which requests some pilgrim advice:
 -----
I'm John - a cotsman living and for the moment working in London. I have been going to Sevilla for many years now - I try to be there three or foru times a year and I usually spend all of the month of August there. I have been learning Spanish for the last couple of years and I think I am making good progress. I love Andalucia and Sevilla in particular - although I am very drawn to the secrets of the Extremadura. Amongst other things I am a church organist. I have played all over Spain but never more happily that in my regular Church in Santas Cruz en Sevilla.

I have been aware of the Camino for a little time and I am strangely drawn to it. All the more so because of the odd coincidences which occur. For examply about three years ago I discovered a fish restaurant in Triana - a very large and authentic Sevillan bar/restaurant. I got to know the camareros and the manager. I hung out there quite a lot and I go and visit them whenever I am in town....then I heard about the Camino...then I began to learn about it....then I discovered the Bar is the Bar Miami with the wornderfulyl eccentric 76 year old dueno who has done the VDLP three times on horse back and has his own Credential and sello!

After the usual welcome by the staff last week I introduced my self to him - what a wonderful conversation about the Camino.

I had wanted to do the VDLP in one go later this year but I fear with committments I will have to do it in two lots starting the first half either in the autumn or immediately after Christmas. Usually I play for Advent and Christmas here in London and then play for the Fiesta on January 1st in Sevilla. I will probably stay on then for four weeks to walk to Salamanca.

Two weeks ago I walked to Guilena and it was wonderful, and that is just the start.

Anyway. Thanks for your helpful postings. Do you know of anyone who has walked the VDLP that I could pen friend with. I'd also like to know if I could join or be helpful to the Sevilliano Friends of the VDLP?

I'd value you advice.

John

I should add that the colorful character that he speaks of, Don Juan (most appropriately named) is the president of the Seville Association of Camino Friends which is located in the courtyard next door to the bar.
The credential mentioned is the very nice Via de la Plata credential.
Don Juan and his twin brother run the fairly large bar, together with their nephew Manual and they cheerfully dispense the Credential and affix the initial seal.
A few weeks ago a member of this list wrote me about what seems to have been a very tasteless joke, at the expense of the member and his wife, by some employees of the bar.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the message. Will the pilgrim who send it will send it to me again so that I can show it to Don Juan? I'm sure he'll make sure that nothing like that ever happens again.
In the fourth century Saint Augustine wrote that "bad things happen when good people do nothing". Don Juan and myself have in common an intense love for the Camino and will do whatever we can to prevent any unpleasantness visiting any pilgrim.

I'll arrive in Seville tomorrow and will check my e-mail daily.

Love and hugs!

Rosina
