Hello you all,
The pilgrims' statistics for last month have been posted by the pilgrims
office. You can read them by going to:
www.archicompostela.org.
When the "portal" page appears, click on the small multicolored shell; as
the next page comes up, click on whatever language may be your pleasure by
selecting a flag. (the British flag for English), and on the next page click on
"statistics" and then select the month.
It is interesting to note that the April 2006 pilgrims who received the
Compostela were more than twice the number of those who received it in April, 2005.
It seems that the pilgrims' office has finally gotten the hang of their new
computer system, (to the purchase of which "American Pilgrims on the Camino"
contributed a nice amount a year ago).
The office has also gotten help from some computer wizard pilgrim getting the
system to run.
You may have read that in 1991 an American Franciscan nun from New York,
sister Judith Zoebelein, was called to the Vatican for computer duties. She put
together the Vatican site which so pleased Pope John Paul II that his 1995
Christmas message appeared on the new web page, and nothing else. Today the site,
www.vatican.va is reportedly the most visited, with more than a million
visitors every month. It is available in six languages and contains an
enormous amount of artistic and historical information, including great pictures of
the art works in the Vatican Museums.
Well, it would seem that a techie nun who had just completed the Camino was
seen fiddling around with the computers at the pilgrims' and Archdiocese's
offices, and now they are operational.
The project of having the albergues computer-connected is proceeding apace,
with more than 25% already in the system.
Warm regards,
Rosina
