Hello you all,

The number of pilgrims receiving the Compostela during 2005, a non-Xacobean
Holy year, appears to have surprised the Santiago Archdiocese, since it
represents a whooping increase over the numbers in other recent Non-Xacobean Holy
years: 26% over 2003 and 71% (!) over 2000.
Of the last two Holy years, the number of pilgrims receiving the Compostela
in 2004, 179,954, composed an increase of only 16.4% over the numbers in 1999,
which were 154,613. Yet, there was an immense amount of publicity and
enticements in 2004, which were totally discontinued in 2005; nevertheless the
percentage increase in 2005 over other non-Holy years was much larger.

Specifically, in the year 2000 s pilgrims receiving the Compostela were
55,004; in 2001 they were 61,418; in 2002 they were 68,952, in 2003 they were
74,614 and last year they were 93,924.

Any ideas about possible reasons?

Warm regards,

Rosina
