Hello you all,
A new albergue, "Das Animas" (the Souls) has opened in Ambasmestas, Leon, in
time to receive the expected large number of pilgrims who walk the Camino, in
whole or in part, during Holy Week. The albergue is sponsored by the Friends
of The Camino de Santiago in Ambasmestas and is looking for hospitaleros.
Those interested in functioning as such may send an e-mail to:
                                 das_animas at hotmail.com

Eleven of those prisoners serving sentences in Valencia who requested Holy
Week parole will be making a pilgrimage to Santiago. accompanied by prison
teachers, a nurse, and several functionaries, they will be driven to a site 120
kilomters from Santiago wherefrom they will walk.
At their request, the prisoners, and their companions, attended a Pilgrims'
Mass in Valencia prior to their departure.
While on the Camino they will stay mostly in monasteries, and after reaching
Santiago they will return to the Picassante prison in Valencia to finish their
sentenced incarceration.
This is the third time that the facility has granted Holy Week "parole".
I'm sure we all wish them well.

On a related note, El Correo newspaper of today reports that Compostela has
suffered a judicial "collapse" because it has had to deal with 1,000 cases in a
year.
Good grief! In New York City one thousand cases wouldn't even keep us
occupied for a week.
Oh well!
Regards,
Rosina
