Dennis, I think if you use walking sticks, that your trail runners
could be fine. You would need running shoes with maximum cushioning
since you will be carrying your body weight plus 20 pounds. Remember
that in May you could have rain and boot sucking mud in some places. 
I had similar conditions in southern france last spring and my Lowa
GTX Renegade boots kept my feet dry.  I used similar boots on the
Camino, but for hiking around home I use trail runners, and just
bought some trail runners with maximum cushioning and ventilation for
my 110 mile backpack next month in the California desert.
