Yes, you can buy just about anything that you can afford in Spain, but
not necessarily when you need it. It's no big problem in the cities,
but the hamlets are a different story. Not that it is really any
different from the U.S. If a walker got as far as the metropolis of Big
Pine (pop. 1530), where I live, and found that something needed
replacement, he/she might be able to find it here, but not likely.
Instead, the walker would have the option of walking 15 miles to the
megapolis of Bishop (inner city pop. 3500, suburbs another 3500) or of
waiting for the once a week day bus to go to the city. No, it is not a
wilderness either. The wilderness is 10 to 15 miles to the east and
some walkers on the Pacific Crest/John Muir trail that run out of food
have to hike on out to one of the string of villages in the valley to
get that.
