[Gocamino] Planning

I, too, am from the school of lightweight minimalism, and would have to
agree with the others. I believe that part of being a pilgrim is to
make wise choices, yet not be encumbered by technology along the way.
The poor, unfortunate pilgrim who became trapped (in the attached
email) did so because he refused to heed a local's advice about the
weather. Any 12th century pilgrim would have thought twice.

Experience has shown me that no matter how much planning you might do,
no matter how much conditioning you achieve, life always has its own
plans. Sure, you may jog and lift weights in training for months before
leaving, then be hobbled by a downpour, wet socks, and a few well
placed blisters. You may make refugio reservations for days in advance,
but be delayed by a cold, a local festival, or new friendships. This
experience invents itself daily. Invite the unpredictable and perhaps
the small miracles will arrive as well.

That said, after sensible planning, so much of the experience I've
found involves trusting, having fatih, and "letting go." A little pain
and discomfort can lead to more than a walk across Spain--perhaps a
little revelation about yourself and life.
