To Dave W and others interested.
Suero de Quinones
was a real person. The accounts that you have are from a couple of books about
his life, biographies, as it were.

This data is taken from Maryjane Dunn's and my annotated bibliography

Pedro Rodríguez de Leña. El Passo Honrosso de Suero de Quiñones (Madrid:FUE,
1977).

A lengthy description of Suero de Quiñones' 1434 tournament which was held on
the Orbigo bridge, in order to prove his love to his lady while jousting
knightly pilgrims on their way to Compostela. This account was later
summarized by Juan de Pineda, and first printed in Salamanca in 1588. For
Pineda's version one edition is: Libro del Passo Honrosso por Pero Rodríguez
de Leña, Martín de Riquer, intro. and ed. (Madrid: Espasa-Calpe, 1970).
