Hello you all,
Msgr. Julian Barrio, Archbishop of Santiago, and the cultural minister of the Galician Xunta exhibited yesterday a model of the soon-to-be "Pilgrim's Door" at the entrance to Santiago.
The monument, called "Porta Itineris Sancti Iacobi", will be erected in the Saint Lazaro neighborhood at the end of the French Camino, and it will be a symbol of the entrance of pilgrims into Compostela.
The monument, to be erected by the Galician sculptor Candido Pazos, will consiste of two columns 16 meters high (app. 50 feet) united at the top by a bronze frieze five meters long and one meter wide.
One of the columns will be cylindrical and the other one rectagular, and they will display bronze relieves of twenty famous pilgrims such as Teodomiro, Bishop Gotestalco, Galtier Guiffard, Diego Gelmirez, Dante Alighieri (?), Saint Bridget, Leon de Rosminthal, Robert Langton, Isabel of Lucerne, Fernando Quiroga Palacios, Alfonso II "the Chaste" and Pope John Paul II.
It is expected that the portal will have been finished by July 25th.
Warm regards,
Rosina
