Thank you!
I have carried this prayer with me for over 25 years, and I am happy now to see it in a language I am trying to learn.
 
Where are the St. Francises now when we need them?!
 
It seems to me that if you take a snapshot of a moment in the history of humankind you may, perhaps be able to tell the "good guys" from the "bad guys".  But as you move further back and take in a greater portion of history, it gets increasingly more difficult to make that judgment.
 
Enough innocent blood has been shed over time to stain the hands of every nation, religion, culture, and race on this planet.  I agree with Russian author, Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn, when he wrote:
 
"If it were all so simple!
If only there were evil people somewhere
insidiously committing evil deeds,
and it were necessary only to separate them
form the rest of us and destroy them.
But the line dividing good and evil
cuts through the heart of every human being.
And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"
