Hello you all,
Last yeawr, 2003,the number of pilgrims who received the compostela in Santiago was 74,614, that is, about 6,000 more than during 2002.
Of there 30,184 came from countries other than Spain.
The total pilgrims from America, in descending numbers, were as follows:  From the U.S.A. 1,512; from Canada 1,029; from Brasil 999; from Mexico 229; from Argentina 189; from Venezuela 97; from Colombia 90; from Chile 59; from Uruguay 41; from Ecuador 39; from Peru 33; from Puerto Rico 20; from Guatemala 11; from Cuba and CostaRica, 10 each; from El Salvador 9; from Bolivia 7; from Honduras 6; from Panama 5; from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, 4 each; from Paraguay 2; and from Trinidad, The Bahamas and Haiti, 1 each.
538 pilgrims came from Oceania: 426 from Australia; 110 from New Zealand; and fron Fiji and Indonesia, 1 each.
329 of the pilgrims were from Asia: 231 from Japan; 33 from Israel; 11 from India; 10 from Korea; 8 from the Philipines; 7 from Taiwan; from China and Iran (!), 6 each; from Lebanon 4; from Malaysia 2; and from Vietnam and Thailand, 1 each.
167 of the pilgrims came from Africa:  from SouthAfrica 122; from Morocco 19; from Nigeria 4; from Botswana and New Guinea, 3 each; from Algiers, Cameroon, Mozambique, Kenya and Togo, 2 each; and from Angola, Caboverde, Congo, Maurice Island (?), Tuniz and Sahara, 1 each.
The bulk of the non-Spaniard pilgrims, 24,571, came from Europe:5,967 from Germany, 5,157 from France; 4,210 from Italy; 1,658 from Portugal; 1,252 from Holland; 1,223 from the United kingdom; 1,220 from Austria; 1,155 from Belgium; 1,003 from the Nordic countries (?); 643 from Sweden; 421 from Ireland; 221 from Chekoslovakia; 153 from Poland; 151 from Hungary; 73 from Slovania; 54 from Andorra; 45 from Slovakia; 23 from Rumania; 22 from Croatia; 16 from Luxemburg; 15 from Russia; 10 from Malta; 9 from Greece; 8 each from Bulgaria and Estonia; 7 each from Iceland and the Ukraine; 5 each from Lithuania and Serbia; 4 from Bosnia; and 1 each from Albania, Cyprus, Litchenstein and Turkey.
In all, 95 countries.
