If you mean to go as a tourist, by all means take a bus to the Santiago
environs and walk a little bit from there  (you will need about two days to get
over the tume=change, etc.).  But if you intend to go as a pilgrim the best
thing, on my view, would be to do as Claudia suggests:  start from Roncesvalles, go
as far as you can and return some other time to complete the pilgrimage.
