For those who may be considering a pilgrimage this year, the following Zenit news report of this date might be of interest:

ROME, FEB. 16, 2004 (Zenit.org).- About 50,000 young people are expected to join the 2004 European Youth Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from Aug. 5-8.The initiative is being organized in the context of the Holy Year Devotion to St. James. The Archdiocese of Santiago and the Spanish episcopal conference are promoting the pilgrimage. Archbishop Julián Barrio of Santiago presented the initiative to some 50 representatives of lay apostolic movements Saturday at the offices of the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Its objective "is the development of a meeting of European scope in which young Christians of the continent will come to know and study further the Christian roots of Europe and commit themselves to the construction of a new Europe of hope," said Father Roberto Martínez, diocesan director of the pilgrimage. Eighteen thousand youths have already registered for the event. The Spanish-language site www.archicompostela.org has more details.
